The mother of a Mississippi kindergartener claims that her daughter was attacked by another child at the school playground, but the school district says the girl was hurt on her own.

Lacey Harris filed a police report with the Pascagoula Police Department on Thursday after her daughter, AvaLynn, came home from school with "her face swollen, cut, and bruised beyond recognition," according to a description of the incident posted to the Facebook group "Justice For AvaLynn."

According to that account:
"AvaLynn informed Lacey that she was assaulted by another student: that she was kicked repeatedly in the face until she fell off of the slide on the school's playground. The school informed Lacey [that there] were no teachers present when the incident occurred, and because of that, no one could prove whether or not another student had harmed Ava."

The school, however, claims that AvaLynn injured herself and that no other students are responsible for her injuries, according to AL.com.

According to a statement from the Pascagoula School District:
"A student was injured while playing on the playground at Arlington Elementary School Tuesday afternoon. School officials responded to the situation. The parent was contacted and the student received medical treatment. No other children were involved in the incident. The Pascagoula School District remains committed to the safety of all its students."

Law enforcement officials were investigating the matter.

"The mother alleges another child kicked her child on the slide," Pascagoula Police Department Lt. Jim Roe told GulfLive.com. "Right now, there's no indication something criminal took place. I have spoken with school security and an assistant superintendent is investigating the matter."

A GoFundMe campaign was also started to raise money for AvaLynn's "medical needs and travel expenses."

Your thoughts on if this looks like an accident or looks like she was beat up by another child?

Well... when I was nine or ten, I walked past the swings on school yard and one of the swings hit me and I flew and grazed the side of my head/cheek to the ground. All I got was some scratches...

If we're talking about a regular kids slide, it doesn't really look like it would cause a kid that much damage if she simply fell from the top to the ground.

I think she was kicked.

Not sure if anyone clicked the spoiler in the OP but this is what her face looked like:

The only way that could be considered to be a fall would be if she got up and did it eight more times. There's definitely an assault in there.

I agree that this little girl was attacked by someone or multiple people. By who, however? I can't say for certain. But someone needs to be brought to justice as you can plainly see she could not fend for herself.

Yeah, there is no way that was from a fall or from that child's own doing. I do believe she was repeatedly hit with something in the face. But nothing will be done! The justice system is so corrupt and out to line everyone's pockets. No one cares that his lil girl got beat up. She didn't die and she's so young that her testimony won't hold up in court. Those big scary adults can spin things any way that they like and this girl can't argue them cause she's 5-6 years old and doesn't have the mental development yet to do so and the court appointed advocate will be an idiot. My legal aid lawyer was a moron.
