What has more side effects, herbs or modern medicines?

Which ones do you trust more?

I think that side effects are certainly possible/probable with both; but in general maybe PHARMA would be more worrisome.

Anyway I think modern medicine has more side effects. The natural remedies don't have a ton because they dont really do anything in the first place. :P

I do agree that the supplement industry is fraught with fraud; however; my husband was having migraine headaches & vertigo spells...so bad that the family doctor sent him to a shrink. (whose specialty is migraines) After it seemed like endless imaging tests & various prescribed drugs with no progress, the shrink announced that he had a magnesium deficiency & so, 'prescribed' a pretty large daily dose of OTC magnesium supplement that is available at Costco rather inexpensively.
....knock on wood...it's been a little over a year now since my husband had one of those spells. :dontknow: So, we're wondering why in the hell the "expert" didn't try this before all of the BigPharma drugs that have three pages of side effects in the first place .
Don't tell me - - - more $$ in more pockets. :rolleyes::LOL:

And so, this experience has somewhat boosted my opinion of "do-nothing" vitamin-mineral supplements. :cool:

Nice. I get magnesium supplements from costco myself. I heard they help you sleep so I'll take one an hour before bed time.

Do me a favor.

The next time you see a commercial for a prescription medication, go look up the side effects reported during the clinical trials for it.

THEN, go find whatever traditional medicinal herb that was used for the treatment for whatever the prescription was supposed to fix and then track down the side effects for it.

Objectively compare the two lists.

And get back to me with the results.

That's a heck-of-a homework list. :LOL:

I know that the first 'possible' side effect of magnesium can be upset stomach...the dr. warned me to regulate the dosage when using that for leg cramps. :)

It never upset my tummy :D
On my initial "trial run" (no pun intended) I was taking too many mg's (for me) and it did. Dosage adjusted & it's fine. :D
My husband is taking exactly twice the dosage I am, and no problem. (y)
