Internet search giant Google has created a new interactive doodle that allows users to control digital puppets to celebrate what would have been the 75th birthday of Muppets creator Jim Henson.

The Jim Henson Doodle features six new Muppet characters to replicate the shape of the Google logo. Each of the characters move in response to movements of the computer mouse.

The internet search giant worked with The Jim Henson Company to create the doodle, which will feature on the Google homepage for 36 hours.

It was created using the Henson Digital Puppet Studio, three dimensional puppeteering software that has helped create animated shows such as Sid the Science Kid.

In a statement on its blog, Google added: For the next 36 hours, we’re honouring Jim’s birthday on our homepage with a special doodle created in tandem with The Jim Henson Company.

The digital puppet system used to create the doodle uses three major components – mechanical hand controls, a computer control and a digital puppet workstation which renders the live on-screen image of the character.

I tried it and it was fun! Have you also tried it?

I loved this! It's great when Google does things like this! Did anyone else see the guitar one a few months ago? In honour of Les Paul...
