Besides, who needs an army that isn't willing to fight?

i dont think it should be compulsary

without it you have a very professional armed forces.............with it you would get all sorts that are not suitable for service.....and i know which i would want watching my back

i think the one that bucks the trend would be the IDF but then thats a very different philoshphy involved

Wait... how is a nuclear program peaceful? It doesn't sound peaceful at all...

Thank you for making my point.

Mr. Ahmadinejad is on the record as saying Israel will be annihilated. We would be fools to think he didn't mean it, and Israel, for one, isn't willing to take the chance. Once he finishes with Israel, he will set his sites further west. And no, he doesn't care what that will do to Iran, that's not the point, he is fighting for the Glory of Allah as he sees Him. He's said that too.

As far as the Selective Service.

I believe it may become necessary in a time of direct national emergency to re-institute the Draft.

But in the mean time, we are OK with an All Volunteer service.

So how come the guy's still alive?

That'd actually work, people'd be a lot more ready to protect their homes directly than to stand in some desert killing people miles from home.

Because if he were to suddenly come down with lead poisoning he'd be a martyr to the cause, and even more dangerous than he is now as an Ideal Warrior of Allah.

Alive, he may discredit himself, even if he has to have a bit of help, and take the fire out from under his cause.

Trust me, the Mossad probably know how he butters his toast in the morning.
