Needle Phobia

In case you aren't aware, needle phobia is very different to just not liking a needle.
In the (posted) article quote it 'says' "treatment can ease symptoms"
....EH?

For someone who is an extremely "hard poke" when it comes to getting an IV started or simple blood test, I really don't believe there are any actual treatments. Tricks/mind games maybe. Once in a while you can just accidentally skate through a procedure (gaaah, I hate that word) but for people with 'problem veins' I think you're just stuck with a profoundly uncomfortable experience.

**~Trust me, I know what I'm talking about :ROFLMAO::LOL:~**

And the vein finder thingy is a piece of junk.

Hope that clarifies things if you weren't already aware. Many aren't, surprisingly :)
Yes, I didn't know the name, but everything has a true phobia essentially. However, I was mostly referencing how most people react to needles as if there is a huge group of the population that loves them.

I know no one bothers with it. It'd be interesting to read about the effectiveness of such, actually.

I'm very hard poke. What's worse, they find it easier to find my vein on my right arm, but that increases my anxiety, I want it on my left arm and my left arm only. Haha :p

I was surprised there was a name too until I googled it. When it first happened to me. Haha, such a n00b, me :p

vein finder?
"A vein finder is a medical device that uses infrared light to locate veins beneath the skin. It is often used by healthcare providers to help them find veins for injections, blood draws, and other treatments."

Special nurses are designated to use these devices, here they're called "Stat Nurses". Sometimes these things work, sometimes they don't; I have to wonder if the problem is with the machine or the operator. :dontknow:

Just hope that you don't get to the part where they can't get a vein in either arm & then they get it out of your foot.
THAT'S a real 'experience'.

Oh gosh! I'd probably move and they may end up amputating my foot, ffs. wow.
Every time, though, they managed to get it out of my left arm, but it took a while to get the right place. They had to move the needle around inside my arm for a while. What fun!!😢

That is just 'killer'! I hate that!
For some reason, IV starts are a bit tougher than blood tests. For me, a little problem with blood tests is that they are always scheduled for morning or early afternoon & I don't eat breakfast (except for dinner sometimes :p). Recently a PA (Physician's Assistant) suggested that I drop in randomly after having some lunch later in the week just for the blood test. Maybe it was just a fluke, but that made the procedure some easier.

I could have googled that :p
Yes, and yet you asked lol.

They used 1 in a Philly hospital, there were 3 nurses in my room.

Was there one nurse specially trained to use the gadget?
Did it work smoothly or not?
