Most people think that the new decade is starting tomorrow. However there was no year 0 between BC and AD, therefore the new decade should be 2011.

Oppinions!?

I'd consider it a new decade no matter what the technical stuff says.

I'd consider it a new decade as well. I mean, a decade is a period of ten years, is it not? So technically, the new decade does start this year (2010).

Well, technically speaking there were some calendar changes between 0 and 2010 so...

I'd consider it a new decade just because it's easier

That's because 1 AD was the first year. Historians have never counted with zeros. Year zero is not used in the widely used Gregorian calendar, nor in its predecessor, the Julian calendar. The number zero is still used. Like 10 AD, etc.

Officially, the new decade begins on January 1, 2010 and ends on December 31, 2019. I think I'll go by that lol.

A decade is ten years. That means that 1997 - 2006 was a decade (and therefore 2007 was the start of a new decade). 2000 - 2009 was ten years, therefore a decade.

BreakGuy is correct, but it doesn't bother me. People won't be referring to this as the 201st decade, anyway.

I'm getting deja vu from an old Sienfeld episode. Technically as far as this decade is concerned 2000 would have been the year zero so the new decade started today.
