New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said on Sunday: Sometimes government does know best. And in those cases, Americans should just cede their rights.
ââ¬ÅI do think there are certain times we should infringe on your freedom,ââ¬Â Mr. Bloomberg said, during an appearance on NBC. He made the statement during discussion of his soda ban ââ¬â just shot down by the courts ââ¬â and insistence that his fight to control sugary drink portion sizes in the city would go forth.
ââ¬ÅWe think the judge was just clearly wrong on this,ââ¬Â he said, on NBC. ââ¬ÅOur Department of Health has the legal ability to do this. ââ¬Â¦ [Theyââ¬â¢re] not banning anything.ââ¬Â

YOUR freedoms... but evidently not His.
Mr. Bloomberg, who owns a waterfront estate here, has walled off his life in Bermuda from voters in New York, arguing it is none of their business. He steadfastly refuses to say when he is on the island, and to blindfold prying eyes, he has blocked aviation Web sites from making public the movements of his private planes.
