Hot Air: NYC Cops Disinvite Mayor De Blasio To Officer Funerals
Excerpt...
The situation between New York City police and the Mayor’s office has clearly reached a critical point. While they have disagreed on several things in the recent past, there always seemed to be some level of cooperation remaining, or at least the willingness to maintain a public patina of such when the cameras were turned on. But after Bill de Blasio’s response in the wake of Eric Garner’s death, it seems that city’s finest have had enough. A police union in the Big Apple has asked their members to sign a waiver stating their wishes that Hizonor refrain from attending their funeral if they pay the ultimate cost in the line of duty:

“I, as a New York City police officer, request that Mayor Bill de Blasio and City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito refrain from attending my funeral services in the event that I am killed in the line of duty,” the waiver states.

“Due to Mayor de Blasio and Speaker Mark-Viverito’s consistent refusal to show police officers the support and respect they deserve, I believe that their attendance at the funeral of a fallen New York City police officer is an insult to that officer’s memory and sacrifice.”

Officers can download the form on the PBA’s Web site and drop off a signed copy to their PBA delegates.

The mayor traditionally attends funerals for fallen officers. “This is deeply disappointing,” the mayor and the council speaker said in a joint statement. “Incendiary rhetoric like this serves only to divide the city, and New Yorkers reject these tactics.

It’s interesting that the Mayor’s office would choose to refer to this action as incendiary rhetoric while refusing to even address the concerns of the officers and their leadership after he essentially threw them under the bus. Yes, we all know that the Mayor’s wife is black, but standing in front of that many cops and saying that he warns his own son to be careful around them lest he be killed was clearly one step too far across the Rubicon.

Thoughts?

The mayor stated that he warned his bi-racial son to "take special precautions in any dealings with police officers." When he gave his speech, he implied this as telling his son to be careful of the police, they might beat on you for no good reason. How about this as a revelation. Teach your children to obey the law, be respectful, and follow the rules governed by society. If you have an issue with a police officer, feel you have been mistreated, or unfairly given a ticket, there is a process for that called the judicial system. There is no reason to fear the police if you are doing nothing wrong. Plain and simple people. It's not that hard of a concept. I agree with the police union wanting to ban him from police funerals. He doesn't support/care about them. Why would he? He has a political agenda to fill.

You elected a communist into office and now you are paying the price when those kinds of radicals have power. I feel bad for the police who risk there lives everyday.

in which how is that a negative thing? and how do you know what he talks to his son about cops is anything negative either? to talk to your children about the country's law & order, they must know about police, how to maybe get along with them and to know the laws... knowing your rights is not a bad thing...

When he gave his speech, he implied this as telling his son to be careful of the police, they might beat on you for no good reason.
it "implied", or it "implied" to someone or some people so it must be the case, right? wrong... and even if he did, why is it a bad thing to tell your son about real things like police brutality and police profiling when it's real and not fake? why keep the fake away and hide it or try to hide it from your son with false truths/lies? i know i wouldn't...

How about this as a revelation.
okay, go on...

Teach your children to obey the law, be respectful, and follow the rules governed by society.
i 100% agree with this and very well said...

If you have an issue with a police officer, feel you have been mistreated, or unfairly given a ticket, there is a process for that called the judicial system.
i agree and this is true, but in a lot of situations and incidents, the people that lost their lives are unable to take that route... and that means society is needed to keep the government and especially the police in check and balanced... and to stand up for our rights when police thinks we have none... if a cop is out of line then i will never bow down and give up myself to a jerk like that... respect goes both ways...

There is no reason to fear the police if you are doing nothing wrong.
that's 100% inaccurate as a lot of good law abiding americans get beat up this or get shot that, and they weren't doing anything wrong... why would you not be scared of cops if they are acting like how they're acting?

Plain and simple people.
i wish this was true...

It's not that hard of a concept.
i guess it depends on one's illusions or perceptions on the world and how they think the world is...

I agree with the police union wanting to ban him from police funerals.
i'm afraid they don't have that authority or power...

He doesn't support/care about them.
why do you say this? is that what he's saying? link me please...

Why would he?
not sure, to be decent and a gentleman?

He has a political agenda to fill.
which i can agree but please do explain how...

Thats some good spin on a cop hating mayor. I am sure the city will love it when crime goes back on the increase.

where's the spin at?

or, are the questions too hard?

Ghost, assuming your remarks are in the red above...the families of fallen officers can damn well decide who they want at their funeral and they don't Mayor Red there, they can damn well request it. If that were to happen, do you think Mayor de Blasio would be so stupid as to go against a fallen officer's wishes? :|
