This past week, one of his campaign websites posted an item entitled Behind the curtain: A brief history of Romney's donors. In the post, the Obama campaign named and shamed eight private citizens who had donated to his opponent. Describing the givers as all having less-than-reputable records, the post went on to make the extraordinary accusations that quite a few have also been on the wrong side of the law and profiting at the expense of so many Americans.

You know what?

Campaigns should be state-funded.

Because people should be elected for their ideas, not the extravagance of their campaign. All this donating looks an awful lot like bribery.

Agreed, which is why I checked that little box to give $3 to the presidential campaign financing on my tax return.

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]I'm still wondering where the University of California got a quarter of a million dollars to give to a politician.

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Seriously

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]I also agree on your point about the campaigns, their current length is absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary.

Well.. where I go, the University of Washington, it's considered a public university, but only 8% of the school's funding comes from the state.

Well, maybe that could be raised a little after a suitable campaign donation

Well the operating expenses for the fiscal year 2010 at the University of Washington were 5 billion so a $243,486 donation would be equivalent to 0.00487% of the school's budget. And considering the University of California system runs 10+ schools, many of which are a similar size...

Even so. Where did the money come from? Donations to the school to fund academics? Student service fees? Skimming money from the slush fund used to pay for the cars that student athletes drive while they're in school?

Enquiring minds want to know

I agree, but it's probably money from wealthy donors.

I can't claim to know the details and I don't feel particularly compelled to find out.

What do people think of the Obama campaign's new video?

I'm sure you guys will love it

I saw the ad too and it's really good. I personally don't understand the deep-seated animosity some people have towards Obama. He was better than Bush.

Like the video says, he deserves major props for killing Osama, withdrawing troops, and unemployment has gotten better.
