I just found out that my new mortgage company (some fly-by-night half-scam schiester outfit by the name of Green Tree Servicing that picked up a bunch of GMAC's clients when they got involved in the housing scandle) charges TWELVE DOLLARS to pay your bill online.

There is no good reason for that.

If it were two bucks I'd pay it. Maybe even three. Five, I'd bitch about it, and maybe only do it once in awhile when I'm running late. But Twelve? I can send the payment Priority Mail cheaper than that.

Online they get their money almost instantly, there is no check to process and possibly bounce, no human ever has to see the transaction, and the confirmation of payment recieved is automated as well.

My answer had to do with their attendence at the spring festival in White Man's Hell.

They'll get a paper check in the mail.

So, what do you think is a reasonable Convenience Fee for an online transaction?

That is disgraceful, the same issues applies with Ticketmaster for buying concert tickets. If you are buying more than one ticket in a single purchase, they still charge you a service charge based on each individual ticket bought.

It is a total rip-off.

The whole purpose of purchasing on line is that you remove the additional service that adds cost so on line transactions should be next to nothing when it comes to service charges.

What service is your bank actually providing you? Letting you pay back the money you owe them??

I agree, 2 or 3 $ maybe, nothing more.

Twelve dollars! What's their reasoning behind this outrageous fee? Never mind, they obviously cannot be reasoned with. The most I have ever paid was $3 and I bitched about that. I now mail all my bills.

I hope you sent a complaint their way.

Â¥5.

It's not like maintenance fees should be too high as you really should use 3rd party systems for online transactions. Gives you someone to blame.

Nope, I'm not in Asia, never been.

Also, I was thinking of Japanese Yen. Thought it looked nicer than saying €0.05 or £0.05 or $0.05.

As soon as I saw the title I thought about Green Tree and lo/behold that's what this is about.

We are another GMAC and I was very mad about that too! I was even madder when I realized that I forgot and had to do it AGAIN this month! LOL I also had to go searching for my account information because I didn't get my Green Tree account information until Feb 2.....it's due on the first.

I'll look again, but I think if you do the automatic payment there is no convenience fee........but you have to get that set up about a week in advance. It was very confusing and I'm not sure I want to do that.

No Ma'am, I don't let anybody automatically take anything out of my account.

They'll get a paper check every month. With suitable comment handwritten on the statement that goes with it.

And yes, I sent their Customer Service department a very warm and heartfelt note... and it did involve a citation of white man's hell as above.

A day or so later I got a boiler plate answer that they were processing my comment.

How wonderful.
