We have a ton of content and fresh stuff is constantly being added. We cover all sorts of topics, so there's bound to be something inside to pique your interest. We welcome anyone and everyone to register & become a member of our awesome community.

opening

I was setting this place up for a week.. Installing different things, getting some friends to fill it up with topics/posts before I started advertising it.

I think pre-opening statements are retarded, unless you advertised really hard and exposed it there's no way anyone is going to care enough to anticipate anyone's board's opening

Hype? Like going around with a signature saying <insert forum name here> coming soon!

or going around bragging about how they will have the best new forum on the web?

Yeah it usually leads to disappointment. When you hype something up so hard, other people create certain high expectations in their head. Usually when the forum finally opens to the public, it doesn't meet the expectations people set for it.

I used to be really bad at this and I was this last time around too. I opened the forum too soon, had no mods installed, which lead to loads of requests for mods, I had no decent theme, was still using the prosilver one... Next time I want to own a forum I will plan ahead with these things. We were lucky last time I went to the forum owning stint, we got quite a few members in such little time, it was amazing. But for my habit of rushing into things like I do, I don't know if I'll be so lucky next time, which is why I'm laying off forum owning for a while. Might never open a forum again, as I know how hard it is to come up with unique ideas these days.

I followed the wrong crowd, so I thought this was ok to do. I stopped doing it. When I opened Indulge, it just opened. It took me a while to open it because I was busy with things and I didn't want to overexert myself over something that's supposed to be fun . Hype only works if you have clout. I don't obtain clout because I am more of an intimate person. I would have to know you through and through and I only have a small group of friends , unlike those who social network, and have several ,thousands of friends online. It is an illusion of success. Ignore these types of forums-don't use them as a model for your own community because you will fail miserably.

how long does it take you to prepare your board before opening it?

Well, I've only ever run one forum, so I can only answer for that. For that forum, I probably spent a month modifying and content building on phpBB2. At that time, most of the people who came over or were invited were those who worked with me at the one forum I was moderating for at the time. After that, I spent a lot of time on promotion.

It's unfortunate that they're wasting the opportunity for new members by advertising a product that isn't there yet.

Thats the best way to do it.

Lol. I hate it when people hype up their boards heaps. like, THE FUTURE OF PROMOTION FORUMS COMING SOON! and as soon as it opens it's the same as every other, and closes a few weeks later.

My site has been around for years so it's hard to remember. I think when I opening up Faded Paw Prints for the first time I didn't prepare it at all (I hardly knew what I was doing, haha) I guess it wasn't that bad since the host this forum used to have didn't provide many modifications to work with but there should have been some content.

If I was to open a forum now it would take about three or four days.

Haven't yet opened, work is in progress still need a TLD, or something so my visitors won't run away from this long one i got. Glad i came across this going to try an do as Nebulous an snow fairy did an fill up some topics an get some mods' an skins, that i think will come in hand afterwards
