Here comes a very well written letter about one person's indignation over a crappily made comment about Colorists.

I’m mad as hell and I’m not gonna take it anymore. [font='Helvetica Neue', Lucida, Georgia, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif][background=rgb(255, 255, 255)]

Dear Convention whose name will be spared, [/background]
[font='Helvetica Neue', Lucida, Georgia, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif][background=rgb(255, 255, 255)]

Refusal of professional colorists to be listed as guests at your convention is extremely ignorant.[/background]

Your archaic view of creatives is part of what keeps jobs of this industry undervalued. Congratulations, you’ve officially locked out a great percentage of talented, friendly, hard working creatives who would originally have had great interest in attending your convention. [/background]

Your one sentence, “this is not a colorists thing”, was surely the most pigheaded and dismissive thing I’ve been told since I began professional coloring. This is a seriously small-minded view of the way things work. Let me explain why: [/background]
[font='Helvetica Neue', Lucida, Georgia, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif][background=rgb(255, 255, 255)]

Colorists make or break a book: Colorists are extremely essential to the medium of colored comics. I don’t think I need to explain to most any fan, the value of a colorist like Laura Martin or Dave Stewart. Colorists create form for figures and their environments, mood, tone and “Effects” like, blurring, flares, glows, color holds, etc. If any of this is done badly or doesn’t give clarity to an artist’s work, the artwork fails.

I agree 100% with them. Without the colorists, we revert back to the old boring black & white days.

Agreed with both of ya! I know I try to mention the colors in my reviews. Now I don't mind myself reading a comic every now and then that isn't colored. Cause it might work for that particular book. Although one time when I was a kid. I bought this black and white Spider-Man comic and well... Decided to color it since I thought that's what was supposed to happen.

Well yeah, the craft isn't dead. A lot of Sketch artists are around and tend to make money off their sketches. On my Facebook. I regularly see the art of a few people who either did the art themselves, or the coloring or both on a daily basis or near it. Stefano Cardoselli, Jeff Balke, and Dana Black for examples. And if you read Heavy Metal, you may recognize Stefano's name.
