I bet he's really big isn't he? My biggest snake, my corn, got to 6ft1. I still have all the skins they ever shed. I got all but the king from when they were very very small so it was great to compare the skins to see how they'd grown.

My yellow rat escaped one September, when he was still a baby. It was my own fault. He went under the floorboards and reappeared the following April, he'd gone from upstairs at the front of the house to downstairs at the back!

I used to love opening the door with my corn around my neck. She was bright orange and red so it was like a big shock to visitors who had never seen an orange snake before. She was so beautiful.

wow all the snake talk ames me want to get a snake now lol i have a dog

Talking to you brought back fond memories and so I googled amelanistic corn, and discovered that my corn was actually an Amelanistic Motley Corn. She was always very beautiful even for a corn and she was definitely a motley, she had all that extra red. You learn something new every day! I should post a photo of her. (I have photos of the other too but I'd have to scan them in)

I started keeping snakes when I was 16. I'm 31 now.

My first snake, the garter, Amadeus, he died after I'd had him about 6 weeks. I was devastated. He had fits which I was told after was really common in garters but I didn't know that at the time. I said I'd never have another but I fell in love when I saw my corn snake, Morticia.

She died when she was about 6. Her tail died. As you probably know, snakes do actually have a tail. She shed her skin one time and when she was preparing to, her tail was more blue than the rest of her body went. She shed in 1 piece, I always, always checked none was left behind. But her tail went black. The vet tried some stuff but she died. It was just awful. I cannot describe how bad I felt, I saw her die.

I also had Fester the king snake. I was his 3rd owner. He was wild but I thought I could tame him. I couldnt though so I eventually admitted defeat and sold him to a friend who was an experienced breeder.

Gomez my yellow rat, he died almost 5 years ago now, the last one I lost. He got sick about a year or 2 previously. The vet got him well but I was warned that it would probably come back and it did a year or so later so I had to have him put to sleep.

I dunno man. I prided myself on being a good snake owner. I had loads of books and had them before I got my first snake. I was really particular about their environments. But my snakes still got sick. It has put me off having any more, though I have very fond memories of having them.

I know a bit about them i ask my friend sense she has like five snakes of her own.

Just like furry pets, snakes will break your heart when they die. You do actually become attached to them and when they are suffering, you feel it, too!

I got Fuzzy about 6 years ago when a buddy of my husbands came over with 3 snakes he had rescued from a retarded owner. This moron tried to help one of the ball pythons shed which caused it to go blind. So here we were with 3 snakes! One boa and 2 ball pythons. The buddy kept the boa and we found a reliable home for the blind ball and kept the third one. He was a mere 18 long when I got him and now he's this 5 foot long monster!

I loves him; I raised him from a pup and I hope he is with us for many, many years.

It's such a great sense of achievement to see how they grow under your care isnt it?! I mean, of course I've felt that way with my furry pets too but it just seems like more of an achievement when it happens with a reptile, as they are harder work.

I've had loads of rats too, most at the same time as the snakes ironically! I bred my rat and she had 13 babies. I kept 11. I've had 23 rats in total.

Under no circumstances will there ever be a snake in my house. I am scared to death of them.

I have to cats - Belle is a brown tiger and Minnie is a long haired black little princess. Belle loves to lay on me and she gets right up in my face and puts her paws on either side of my neck. Minnie is the baby and she is a princess.

I used to give them defrost yeah, all mine were OK with that (well, the garter ate fish) but I've heard it's quite common with ball pythons to be fussy eaters!
