Parenthood: Right or Privilege?

Its both.

Every person has the right to create a child and love / nurture / discipline / teach / guide / provide for / etc etc etc / the child.

However when a person fails to do that and puts the child's well being in danger, then being a parent becomes a privilege which can be taken away. Then the parent will need to prove themselves to be fit parents and earn that privilege back.

Dang, I was pretty smart in 2010 when I posted this. Now I'd probably respond with a one word answer like some people :whistles:

Just kidding @MamaFrankie :p

It's neither. It's just a method of continuing the species. Do animals ever ponder such questions? No, they don't. They just bang each other.

It's a privilege. Just because you can get someone pregnant/can get pregnant doesn't mean you should. Not everyone is parent material, and a lot of those people KNOW FOR A FACT they are not cut out to be parents but still decide 'I'm going to have a kid!' Same thing with a poor family. In most case where a family is less fortunate/poor, the child grows up in an environment where the parent can't afford to feed them. To be clear, I am not ragging on poor families. I am merely saying that people who don't have money often still end up having kids purely because they can.

Additionally, in a lot of cases, people have kids out of spite. Tell a woman she shouldn't have a kid due to not having any money or legitimately being a terrible person and she'll happily give birth just to show you she does whatever she wants. People need to tone it the fuck down and realize that if you have no money and you're told not to have a kid, we're helping that potential future kid from living a very poor life and most likely never getting out of it.

How do you know they never ponder such questions, you don't live in their brain. :P

I grew up poor, on welfare, etc. I got out of it. I am not rich now but I am doing a hell of lot better than my parents were when they were my age.

Some people have kids just so they can keep getting more government assistance. My mom didn't do that but when we were living in government housing some of my neighbors were pumping out kids left and right to get a bigger check each month.

Ever heard of the expression 'monkey sees - monkey does'? Does that imply much thinking to you? ;)
