LONDON – Britain's interior minister said Sunday she will consider barring from the country a Florida pastor who threatened to burn a Quran on the anniversary of 9/11.

Terry Jones says on his website that he has been invited to a rally in February organized by the far-right English Defense League.

Home Secretary Theresa May said Jones has been on my radar for a few months now.

If it is now clear that he is definitely coming to the U.K., this is of course a case that I will be actively looking at, she told Sky News.

The government has the power to bar people considered a threat to public safety or national security.

A previously obscure preacher, Jones gained infamy through his effort to burn the Quran. He canceled the event after international pressure.

The campaigning group Hope Not Hate said Jones should be barred because only extremists will benefit from his visit.

Is it really THAT hard to ignore people like that?

The media gave him all kinds of publicity - so much that a huge following gathered on FB and FB decided to shut the page down when thousands of Pastor Jones' supporters were planning their own bonfires. If my memory serves me correctly, there were well over 10,000 members who joined in over the course of a few days or so. The original FB page was set up for the general public to read and I was surprised to see how busy it was and all those who supported burning the Koran. Posting youtube videos, etc.

Since I don't have a FB account, all I could do was read. Wow, the hatred towards Islam terrorists is a very real thing here in the States and in the UK. September 11, 2001, has not been forgotten.

As a muslim myself, I know how serious this is.

The jihud would kill him right away if they could

Nor should it be.

Thank you, Eye. So many seem to have forgotten.

I fail to see how burning stuff is going to help anyone though.

I agree in part. From what I've read, it's an expression of disgust towards a book that directed 9/11/01. I'd like to quote from 'that book' regarding this, but I understand such discussions are verboten on Off Topix. And that's probably a good thing. I'm in the Christmas spirit and all.
