So how do you feel about your personal information being on the web?

Recently a girlfriend of mine googled her name and was surprised to find her name, address, and phone number on the net.

Also, she had been in a contest sponsored by her local newspaper. She had a 'profile' page as a contest winner. This had her picture as well as a lot of information about her.

How do you feel about people knowing your info? Should you have a say in what goes on the net? How careful should you be when putting info on the net?

I need to ask before I can answer: Does she have a Facebook and/or My Space account?

I don't get anything (interesting about me) when I google my name

Im against it.

I'm very careful when it comes to info on the net, like on facebook I don't use my real name and I don't supply my profile with a real image of me. I just use Hotspot flame and a character from a game or whatever.

There's this one site that I joined that wanted my real name, I used hotspot flame. But now they are saying they don't like fake names, which really pissed me off becuase I don't want people stalking me! So I used my real first name and my mothers original last name.

Nope. This was just stuff like on white pages.com.

I googled my name, and as luck would have it, there is an author by that name also--hee, hee--none of the info out there is mine.
