Some forums I've noticed have a lengthy registration process requiring many fields to be completed. I personally stay away from these particular forums... I don't even use fake information to register with. I keep my clear completely.

How much of your personal information do you let a forum have about you when you register? Just how much personal information should a forum be allowed to collect from a member?

IP and email address is all any forums needs. Anything else is overkill in my opinion.

Ive seen a few forums that ask for your real name during registration. I always thought that was kind of weird. I usually put something like Nebulous Mc Cool or something.

I agree and that's all the information I ever give out. If a forum wants more than that I will not register.

My forum never asks for any Personal Information and if one of my members put it on the forum then you get banned and the information removed...

IP, email, and possibly age.

Wouldn't really join any forum that asked for more than that. If I was hell bent on joining a forum like that I wouldn't put anything real in. Would be all made up

I believe it was the FreeForums registration form that asked me not only for my first name, but also my last name. Also, they wanted my location and zip code, though I suppose those were at least optional. In any case, that's silly. If anything, registration forms should be made shorter.

I just ask for the e-mail(required for activation),the age of the user and their gender, nothing else.

Only what's required to register a user is all I think should be required. The other fields could be filled in after should a user choose to later in their profile/usercp.
