How do you deal with your animals begging for food?

In my case, its my cat. He acts just like a dog.. Whenever I am eating he is right there staring at me.. Meowing. Rubbing against my legs and whatnot.. As soon as I leave the food unattended, he is there trying to get a bite or eat the whole thing before I get back... Very annoying.

My dog does this EVERY single day! Just tell him to get on his bed about 5 times. Or put if in a different room till we have finished.

I yell at him.. He will stay away for about a minute then will be back..

My dogs do that too and it's annoying. The worst thing you can do with a pet is to feed it people food. Once you start feeding them people food, they never quit wanting it. In fact, they act like they haven't eaten in days whenever they see you getting something to eat. XD

Our new cats have only done it once - when I was eating Tuna, Amber came up, meowing and rubbing against my leg. You know, what cats do. When the rats smell something I'm eating, they seem to just instantly wake up, and they get up on their hind legs, sniffing the air.

I feed my dogs at the same time I eat dinner so I've never had a problem with them begging while I eat.

I ignore them until I finish my food, then if I have anything left I'll give them something. Don't have an indoor dog, but at my grandparent's house they have one, and it begs for food whenever you're eating anything. If it starts jumping on me, I'll push it down and then it'll usually leave me alone.

I usually end up giving them their own plate with the same food I eat, as long as it is not too spicy, or something that isn't good for them.

Hahaha your cat seems to have a personality for sure!

As for me, my cat will beg for food but in a different way. She will go to her food bowl (we have an automatic feeder) and she will meow at the top of her lungs for food.

Thankfully she's never been one to come up while I'm eating or while I have food. Also, if I leave food on the coffee table to get up and get a drink she won't touch my food or even go up to it and sniff it. She is a pretty good cat that way. It's just extremely annoying hearing her yell next to her food dish for a good ten minutes at a time.

:funny:
I had a cat with a similar habit....she would yell like she was starving & insist that someone come feed her - - self-feeder also; but it turns out that what she wanted was just attention.......someone to go stir the "beans" in the feeder.....then she was happy. (for a while.)

Hahaha! There you go! See I try to go play with Barb, my cat but she wants none of it. She just wants us to leave her alone and to give her food. Lol such a spoiled cat. I mean she does come up to us and want attention/to play during the day. But when she is near her dish and screaming it is only because she is trying to get us to feed her as we are her peasants lol
