Pew research has retired the use of Generations?

What’s everyone opinion on this?
I never understood the concept of these labels they’re so arbitrary and make no sense scientifically.

Pew Research Center is tired of blaming Gen Z and millennials for everything—it’s retiring the whole concept of generational framing

Generations have been stereotyped in so many ways—from being quiet quitters to narcissists. But maybe it isn't a generational thing after all.

I wonder why these terms existed in the first place.

I was born in 1995 and never related to older millennials yet we the ‘same generation’

I think the problem, Fait, isn't the arbitrariness of them but in how they're used by statisticians and others.

on my site i have a generation feature not that i believe in it, just for entertainment purposes and I found a few cusp generations.
Im a zennial apparently lmao.

Agreed, on their own they are of much more limited use now. With additional circumstantial and situational factors they could potentially still be quite powerful analytically. Although this would ideally be the exception. There are generally other more meaningful and descriptive groups to draw upon.

They refused to see cusp generations too.
I was born in 1995 the very start of when the internet started taking off.
I relate to both gen z & millennials.

I think with most groups that we look at there will be people at the cusp who don't clearly fit into one particular group. Especially when you are not appropriately paying attention to variation within groups. There is plenty of contact and association between generations for instance. Although I do still think it can still have some explanatory power. However the downfalls they highlight relating to research involving generational research seem to be more based on sloppy research in general. Attributing too much to generational differences and totally ignoring structural and contextual factors. It reminds me of one of my favourite quotes

Another issue is there won't be much difference between someone born in 1994 and 1997 since while they weren't in the same class they did go to school together to some degree.
So younger millennials and older gen z are the exact same group.

I am considered a Xennial or however it is spelled.. I was born in 81.. and I have more in common w/ my younger siblings who are well into the millenials.. my husband is Gen X (born in 78) and very much a latch key kid.. my parents are for the most part stereotypical boomers where tech is concerned, except for my mother, and my husband and I are teaching his parents how to use tech so that they dont fall victim to the litany of scams out there.. my mom just consults us if she has a problem she can't fix especially if my stepdad has a problem with his phone.. My husband has a lot in common with my parents but not so much where it felt like he was their age.. but he definitely has more in common with us.

Anyway, honestly they probably should've retired it sooner since things have gotten to be blurry on the subject after Gen Z.

Did they ever came up with a name for those born after 2010?

I like 1995 as zennials some of us don't remember the 90s which is a gen z trait and some others do which is a millennial trait apparently.

I definitely have much more in common with Gen Z especially older gen z since my entire childhood was in 2000s culture like them I barely experienced the 90s like older millennials, for fun it's good to read but some people take it too seriously.
