Do you use your phone at work? :phone:

At my job it's not an issue and nobody cares if they see me using my phone. In fact I keep two separate cell phones in my pockets at work. One is my personal one and I carry a separate cell phone (provided by my work) that is meant for work related calls ....But my friend had to sign a contract at his work stating a supervisor can literally take your phone away for the day if he/she catches you using it, which seems a little petty and childish to me. :dontknow:

No, I'm not allowed to carry my phone onto the floor with me. I am supposed to be focused on customer service, and any use of personal cell phones will result in discipline.

I used to work at a store and that was the rule too. But that was before smart phones and there was nothing to actually do on your cell phone. Lol, they are much more captivating little devices these days. :P

True. I wouldn't mind being able to use my phone during down times, but the way customers perceive employees if they're not readily available and tend to have their attention elsewhere--especially on a personal device--tends to be very negative. Even just sitting down on a chair is perceived as lazy and distracted, so that's what the company wants to steer away from. Phones now a days are a distraction and where I work they don't belong on the floor.

If I was to get caught using my phone at work, I'd be yelled at by my manager, warned and my phone would be confiscated.

Yeah. An employer should not be able to take any personal property away from anyone. Tell them to stop, write them up, yes, but literally take the phone away? What are we, children?

No cell phones allowed at the hospital. If you need to make a call then there are phones throughout the hospital to use. If someone needs to call me, they go through the reception desk and I'm paged.

I used to be a driver so when on the road there was no-one looking over my shoulder to tell me not to use the phone.

Goes without saying that one should not use the phone while in motion.

Very true about cell phones in use while in motion.

Were you a long haul or local driver?

Used to do some long distance but in recent years mostly local covering West London and out into the surrounding counties.

edit - retired now.

Good for you on your retirement from that job. Long haul has to be very lonely and tedious.

Got a Netflix app and a new 5.7 inch phone. Lunch breaks will be better now! :tv:

I work at a job where I am in a couple different locations. I carry my phone with me, in case of emergency. My husband knows when I take my break and will usually call me then. He pretty much knows that if I do not answer I am either busy or driving. I have Bluetooth, but still will rarely talk on the phone when driving.
The only rule I have is no cell when driving (moot point for me) or during direct interaction with my boss

We aren't meant to use phones at work. I do occasionally though. Sometimes people ask for directions to somewhere, or for random bits of info. I find it easier to check on my phone than to just say "uhhhhhhh..."
