Couple years ago, but I've had it several times.
What did it taste like?
Awful. Where I live now, people love it, say it tastes like chicken. It does not. It was rubbery to me and an somewhat fishy taste.
I have heard it tastes like chicken. How you describe it is what I always pictured it to be though.
My husband said it tasted like chicken for him. For me, no. Everyone has their different tastes though so not trying to deter you from it if you ever get the chance to try it. You might like it.
I seen it on the menu at a restaurant recently, I was too CHICKEN to try it.

would like to have alligator prepared correctly. i tried it at a fair... fried/breaded like chicken nuggets. it was sooooo tough i took it back.
had turtle "steaks" as part of a "seafood" combo... reminded me of veal. frog legs are similar to chicken... white meat with a touch of a fish taste.
i'm fairly open to trying new foods... within reason. you'll never hear me EW like a kid or say i "hate" something i've never even tried. had a neighbor who saved his sick days to go fishing. he would send his son over with some of his catch of the day. sometimes raw. sometimes cooked. he'd never say what i was getting until after it was eaten.
