It's interesting how each country and region has its own way of making and flavouring pickles, and there are numerous variations based on geographical locations.

Do you enjoy pickles?

Have you ever tried making your own?

Never tried making them, but absolutely addicted to dill pickles and always have been. Just thinking about sweet pickles makes me wanna throw up though. :P

I completely agree, especially when it comes to sweet pickles.
What bothers me the most is that nearly every cucumber pickle in supermarkets is sweet. (while they are ok for certain dishes, like sandwiches)
It's one of the reasons I struggle to find ones I enjoy in local supermarkets. Instead, I often go for stores from other countries that offer pickles that are not sweet.
Maybe I should make some again

Never made them but I love them. I could go for some now.
It's awesome to see more people enjoying pickles. :)

........................................................................

I really like mixed pickles, especially with cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, celery, peppers, etc
I used to make pickles in the past. It's been so long, but I never made them very often.

Yes! Dill and sweet & "bread & butter", & pickle relish. And pickled beets, and pickled eggs and pickled hot peppers.

PICKLES FTW!!

I've had somewhat questionable success with making dill pickles in the past. :cautious:

I haven't tried making dill pickles , but I did prepare some hot peppers and like cabbage and cauliflower etc as mentioned in my previous post
goes well next to a nice soup especially for winter

Never made my own and I'm not a big fan of them, but my friend eats them by the jarful. I don't understand it, Jalapenos, too.
Everyone is different in terms of what they like, but yes, I also enjoy jalapenos:p

I like pickles by themselves. I don't like them on things (burgers, sandwiches, etc.).
Sort of the same. I'm not a fan of pickles on sandwiches

Pickled stuffed eggplant is delicious, but sea fennel and vineyard shoots are also great and tasty

Should I assume vineyard shoots are something you eat when you run out of wine? Until now I've never heard of either of those foods.

Grapevines quickly grow new shoots, tendrils, and leaves, especially in spring.
To keep the vines healthy, it's important to trim them. Taking away extra shoots and tendrils stops the vine from wrapping around itself, blocking sunlight and air. This helps the plant stay strong and give good fruit.
The young shoots you remove are perfect for pickles it does have a a tangy, slightly sour taste.

The eggplant pickles are more easy to get . Just get smallest eggplant you can get and cut them lengthwise to create a pocket, then fill it with garlic, carrots, peppers, and parsley. wrap them up with celery, and you'll have a delicious blend of flavours.

sea fennel is taste very similar to some wild greens

People make lots of different pickles worldwide. I just shared a few examples
there are more than just cucumber and pepper pickles, which are the usual ones.

Pickles are great. There's nothing in them. Cucumbers are basically water with very little defense chemicals. So most people can eat them with no consequences.

That's absolutely true. I agree.

@Sandy there a lot of foods people mentioned that I have to look up because I've never heard of them
It sounds like you've got a lot of new stuff to explore

Yes but I am not one of those pickle lovers who must eat it every single day of their lives (nothing wrong with that either!)

I'm with you on that. I also like pickles but don't eat them every day. So, yes, I agree with what you pointed out

I love pickles! I am someone who could eat pickles all the time! My favourites would have to be pickled gherkins and also Branston Pickle.

Branston Pickle is on I love to have in sandwiches with either cheese or ham. I have to be careful though as pickles tend to give me heartburn.

Branston Pickles are probably the only pickles I really like, and definitely on sandwiches with cheese! Delicious
