Have you ever PM advertised?

Has anyone ever PM advertised you? What did you do about it?

well i did it when FA was online and Nebulous took my PM permissions

so after then i left advertising through pm

I've PM Advertised years back on a large forum, but I haven't PM Advertised since. I dislike breaking other forums' rules whilst advertising. I've been PM Advertised to only once. I simply reported the PM and moved on with my life. Being the administrator at my own forum, I'm the last person an advertiser would want to advertise to, through any method. If I do find out that someone is PM Advertising, it's an automatic removal of PM rights. I don't tolerate PM Advertisement in general.

I've sort of done it in the past, but asking members for post exchanges rather then ''please join my forum'', I also sort of asked someone if they would like to be staff on my forum once by PM.

Haven't done any PM advertising whatsoever though in a long time.

Ive never PM advertised, because i dont want to get banned.

I hate PM advertising, a couple of people do it on Movie Discussions, i just ban them, don't want to deal with that crap when there is a advertising section on the boards.

I've only done it on one forum, then I told told off by the admins, so I don't do it anymore.

If a forum allowed advertising, it would be more effective to advertise in threads, in the open. PM advertising seems like a sneaky way to get behind the rules and clog up people's inboxes. I've never done it but I know a few forums which allow it, and you always get these really ridiculous emails about buying land in South Africa.

PM Advertising is cheap advertising.... unless you get the PM Log Mod

PM advertising has been against the rules on every forum I have ran (including this one). I think we see enough advertisements in our daily lives. Even on the forums we go to, perhaps their is an ad banner on the top and bottom of the forum or those horrid text link advertisement things (where you mouse over a word and a little bubble pops open with an advert).

I think being bombarded with advertisements in our private messages is pushing it a little too far.

To be honest, I have no idea why people have a problem with it.. Unless someone is spamming peoples inbox.

It gives the possibility that another member will go to their forum over ours on a given occasion and when you are trying to grow it becomes a huge burden. Also I consider all PM advertising to be spamming, I used to do it when I was younger like three years ago but I don't anymore.

Agreed, but I still don't allow it on my forums XD

I don't like pm advertising--as a rule, and as an admin (here, FA, The Island) I was bound by the rules of the forum to not allow it. However, if I were having a pm conversation with Nebulous, for example, on another forum and he said something like hey, I'm opening a new forum, check it out I wouldn't mind, because we are friends. A mass pm to everyone on the forum--that's not really a good thing....

As a way to personally recruit some members I don't mind it... It's nicer than joining because of a Please Join thread. Heck I wouldn't even be here if Mikey hadn't invited me to TVE that way

I have never PM advertised, but I have had people PM advertise me with things like, please join my forum. Here's the link. Yes, it is unnerving, but I just forward the PM to the administrator and just move on with my life. It's nothing to get worked up over, as it happens. Although sometimes this is why I have PMs turned off on some forums so this never happens, though.

When I had first started out, I did sometimes.

But not anymore.

I now frown upon it.

I probably pm advertised but being very subtle about it...

And that would have been ages ago.

I dont really run forums or care enough about a forum to go out of my way and advertise it.

Apart from now that is

I've never PM advertised, never will. Even though I don't mind me people sending me PM's about joining there forums, I just ignore them.
