I just got myself at least 3 ride-alongs with the local police. My first one is on a Sunday and will be in the morning.

Have you ever taken part in one? Would you ever take part in one? Why [not]? What time would you do one?

I would do one. It would be a cool experiance to see how the police actually work

Do you want to be in the police force?

They don't do that here unless you're in the police academy about to become a police officer.

Haha, yea I do. I have been told by the recruitment officer that I am quite determined.

They don't usually offer it here either unless you are applying... which I haven't technically done yet. It's a student work experience program, and there is a ton of paperwork involved.

Do the police there carry guns?
Not routinely. They will equip themselves with firearms if called to an incident possibly involving firearms.

That's kind of scary as any call could possibly involve firearms.

The criminals aren't as violent as often here in NZ, but sad to say, it's increasing. I believe that our cops will be carrying firearms routinely sometime in the next 10 years.

3 to midnight? Wow that sounds like a long time.. I'd do a couple hours.

It's the entire shift. Don't see the point in only doing a couple of hours.

I dont see the point in sitting in a cop car for 9 hours either.

We'll get a meal break or two and I'm sure there'll be some paperwork that needs completing at the station.

Have just rung the station to double check that my times are correct. Turns out I had been given the wrong time. It's now from 7:00 am

Got a call while I was in physics today and the officer said that I can do another ride along / work experience with them this Friday night from 6:00pm - 4:00 am. It should be a lot of fun. She said that they will be walking the streets and going into bars and clubs (I'm still underage to enter a bar/club, but with the police I'm allowed entry).

Dont think that being with the police makes you immune from a drunk SOB beating you down.

Just kidding.

There is supposed to be a street party on Friday night, so I'm sure we'll get into the heart of that a few times. As long as the whether holds up, it'll be a good night.
