Police Ride-Along

It was an awesome night. I've been really tired all day, hence my reason for not being online recently.
There were lots of Irish rugby supporters in town so that made it really interesting. Arrived a bit before 6:00PM for the swing shift. We started out in the patrol car bail checking. Made a traffic stop for a drunk driver - at the station, it was revealed her was under the limit. Afterwards we got called to a youth hostel where drunken Irish were apparently being abusive towards the receptionists.
We had a meal break and were then walking the beat at about 10pm. With a street party well underway there were plenty of people drinking and 'having a good time'. Warned a few people for breaching the liquor ban and arrested two who had already been previously warned. We were walking the main street for a good 2 or so hours before heading back to the station for another break. About half an hour later, were cruising around the CBD in the prison van. Arrested another for breaching the liquor ban and basically maintained the drunken peace.
Finished the shift at about 4:10AM. Overall, a good night. Can't wait until the next time I do another.

Glad you got to see some action and I think it's great that the Police have the Ride-Along. What a great opportunity for you Kasynlie to be able to do this. They don't offer this here unless you are enrolled in college taking Criminal Justice classes.
It's funny when people look at me, because I'm usually sitting in the back of the patrol car cos there are two officers and me (unless we have an arrest, in which case I'll sit in the front), they think that I've been arrested, until I step out on my own free will and approach them...

That is funny and the look on their face must be priceless

I've had a few people ask me for a ride-along, but they gotta ask higher up than us grunts to get a ride along, so I've deferred a bunch of people to HQ to inquire. Don't know whether they got a yes or no though.
It's a good thing to go for but you gotta keep in mind you will not be taken to the most exciting incidents. Not in the UK anyway.

So far, everything they've been called to, I've gone along with. I'm sure if their is a call regarding firearms, I probably wouldn't be allowed to go, but that's about all I can think of.Amiga said:
I disagree with you. They're really really good. They always have a taser on them should things get out of hand and if I didn't feel safe, or if I was in any immediate danger, they would rectify the situation very quickly. At no point during any of my ride alongs have I feared for my safety.
I've also been told that if I want to experience what they see and do, then the only way to do it is to go with them to these calls.
