Do you think police should be allowed to use deadly force? Why or why not?

Depends on the situation. Like if the "bad guy" is shooting at the cops while they're trying to arrest them, then yeah he's toast.

It’s a harder question really, there’s some situations people must use deadly force and some situations a chat will do the job.

Even in the UK police can and do use deadly force, rarely but it happens.

I thought police officers are already authorized to use deadly force, but only when absolutely necessary. Are they?

I think they should. If criminals get to use guns, so do the cops.

Yeah but should they have that power? That's the discussion here.

Absolutely. Going against an assailants armed with firearms with only batons and tasers doesn't give police officers much of a surviving chance. For that matter, if the police officers would be prohibited from using deadly force, the criminals might as well just stroll into any police station and kill everyone there with ease.

I agree.
You do know most criminals are better shooters then most cops right?
Most?

He has a point. Even school shooters have a better trigger finger. All the cops tucked their tail between tgeir legs in full swat gear and cowered in the corner while that one kid shot up the school. It proves they have no fucking balls whatsoever and should be fired.

We need people who served in the military and have actual combat experience and did tours to be police officers. Not idiots who think appealing to people's sense of morality when they write them a bullshit speeding ticket. The bar needs to be set higher. Civilians make poor cops.

Yes.

As long as a situation meets 2 of the 3 on the Deadly Force Triangle there shouldn't be an issue.

But at the same time, not escalating properly is an issue right now. Or a lack of using the non deadly force weapons and tools that they have is an issue.

I also feel that more training is required beyond the academy and making sure that officers understand how to implement it.

There is literally hundreds of thousands of cops who have that exact experience on their resume.

You have to realize that the percentage of police calls that lead to lethal force is slim to and none and those that do are handled appropriately and justified 99% of the time. Unfortunately, the media and public only ever talk about the 1% when lethal force was mishandled and/or unjustified. There is no question that we are a safer society with police officers.

This 100%. I have, and always will be a supporter of the police. Everyone supported the police up until this modern era where the news can spin things around to create a hate brigade. No one is denying that bad cops exist, but no one talks about the good cops. There is plenty of body cam and dash cam on Youtube of good cops. In fact, not too long ago there was a very peaceful traffic stop of a black man by a white cop. The black man was nice, courteous and complied. Everyone went home, situation handled without the slightest bit of resistance. The media stirs the kool aid and the public drinks it up, overly eager to cry about how bad all cops are.
