34,000 incidents of “racism” in total were reported for the year 2009-2010, with nursery school toddlers as young as three being put on a state database for using the words “gay” and “lesbian”. One child who called another “broccoli head” was also reported to authorities. Other cases included a child who used the word “gaylord,” while another who told a teacher “this work is gay,” was also added to the thought crime database.

This has to be the most assinine article I've read in a very long time. For crap sake, these are little kids that if asked what these words mean wouldn't even know the answer. They are simply repeating (as kids do) words that they have heard from other kids or perhaps even their parents. The one reported for calling another child “broccoli head” really made me chuckle. The parents of these so-called little racists need to report the homophobic authorities who are in charge of this state thought crime database. If the authorities ever did something like this to my child (if I had one that is), there would be hell to pay.

The first two words are simply homophobic and the other one is just a silly and trivial insult referring to someone's hairstyle. Also, I like how kids and young children still use the word gay as an insult when they have no clue what it actually means. All I can really say about this is...

Only because we choose to view them as such. Gay has a whole different meaning and was just another word not all that long ago. Lesbian is just a term used to... describe a lesbian. You're not convincing me straight is a naughty word now...



Words only have power because we give them power. If everyone disregarded the word it would not be homophobic. Ergo, the people compiling that database (or making people do it) are the true homophobes.



I would also like to add that this is a truly petty thing to do and that a couple girls I know used the word gay last week (in the way these children were using it). That does not make them homophobes... one of them was a lesbian for crying out loud!
