Samsung Galaxy S5 owners can look forward to receiving an update to Android L. A new, detailed video shows the smartphone running an early build of Google's upcoming OS.

Google is about to release its most significant update to Android since the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in 2011. Android L is expected to continue Google's dessert-themed Android naming convention and the company recently hinted that 'Lollipop' would be its official name.

When Apple previewed iOS 7 in June 2013, the company billed the OS as the most significant iOS update since the original iPhone in 2007. The iOS 7 update introduced a completely redesigned UI that featured a flatter look, refined typography, and tons of new features for iOS fans.

Now, Android fans can look forward to a similar overhaul. Android L introduces a redesigned user interface that uses a new design language called Material Design. The new UI takes major inspiration from the card interface used in Google Now. Android L improves upon the way it multitasks and displays currently opened applications in a new 3D stacked-card view. Google has also put a major focus on enhancing battery life in Android L through a series of new optimizations that are part of "Project Volta," which includes a battery-saver mode option in Android L.

Google is expected to officially launch Android Lollipop later this month or in early November.

The first devices to run the new OS are likely to be the Motorola-built Nexus 6 phablet and HTC Nexus 9 tablet. Several manufacturers have already confirmed that they will release an Android L update for some of their smartphones and tablets, and we now know Samsung is well on its way to bringing Android L to the Samsung Galaxy S5.

SamMobile has posted a very detailed video that shows the flagship smartphone running a very early Android L test build (LRW58J for the Samsung Galaxy S5. The video provides a tour of the new OS, including a look at how Samsung has used an updated version of its TouchWiz front-end user interface with Android L. The video also shows Samsung's stock Phone, Messaging, Memo, Clock, and other apps have all been redesigned with Android L's Material Design language.

The site notes that this is a very early build of Samsung's Galaxy S5 Android L update and users should expect a more optimized version when it is officially released. Check out the video below and let us know what you think of Samsung's interpretation of Android L.
