NASA science is set to land on the Moon aboard Odysseus, Intuitive Machines’ uncrewed autonomous lander. Touchdown is now targeted for 6:24 p.m. EST (2324 UTC) Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024. The NASA payloads aboard the lander aim to help us learn more about terrain and communications near the lunar South Pole.

Oh well.

Intuitive Machines: Odysseus Moon lander 'tipped over on touchdown'

All the scientific instruments that planned to take observations on the Moon are on the side of Odysseus that should still allow them to do some work. The only payload likely on the "wrong side" of the lander, pointing down at the lunar surface, is an art project.

"We're hopeful to get pictures and really do an assessment of the structure and assessment of all the external equipment," Mr Altemus told reporters.

"So far, we have quite a bit of operational capability even though we're tipped over. And so that's really exciting for us, and we are continuing the surface operations mission as a result of it."

Update on the landing, @DrLeftover.....

After around 4 days since the Odysseus lander made contact with the Moon, we have finally received some actual images of the lander on the surface. This includes distant images from NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter along with some onboard cameras. Unfortunately, the quality is still far from ideal.

That being said, it gives us more insight into the current state of the lander along with what to expect in its final days.

Japan's woke up.
