How many privates would you say you send and receive in any given month?

I have private conversations when I just want to chat with a single person and it feels inappropriate to do in the public forums, not very frequently, but it does happen.

I never ever PM people as much on forums. I do respond to PMs that people send to me, though. I just never do 1 on 1 convos in them much nowadays.

The main time I use private messages is when people contact me to help them with their board/coding issues. I don't PM many people myself. I use Discord for chatting with friends.

Theres a couple people I chat with on occasion through PM's. Mainly its just for people needing help with forum related stuff or if they have a question about this community.

Probably, they should allow that on the free hosts, like proboards and jcink. They are all one big network so they should make it happen. Especially on probards where you only need one main account and can register on any of their forums in just a couple clicks.

The main goal would be turning them into an active and loyal member while also earning a new friend

Well if you tell potential members this strategy then they might think you're being disingenuous because you try to befriend everyone automatically, they aren't special jk

I usually use it when I have a specific question for the admin and don't feel like posting it for everyone to see

I much prefer to discuss with people out in the open unless the conversation contains information that should not be out in the open such as email address, PayPal address if someone is paying you for a service, and such. I would say that I only send about a few PM's a week and most of the discussions are done on the forum.

Yes PM advertising used to be a really huge problem back in the day. You don't really hear about it too much these days
