Private Message Solicitation

The solicitation comes from an Admin or staff member from another forum. They are asking you to join their forum.

Have you ever been a member of a forum and received this type of private message solicitation?

If so, how do you feel about another forum doing that?

I was always led to believe PM advertising was bad. Like, where I first started foruming and stuff frowned upon it and had it against their rules to do it n'stuff.

The last couple of times it happened was right here on Off Topix.

I reply that I'll go give their site a look.

I go, I look, I do not sign up, then I leave, and in every case so far, I haven't been back.

If it happens here on Off Topix, it's against our board rule . I would ask if this happens to any member here to please report it to a staff member.

Happened to me only once, and that was many years ago. The message was actually from some random noob and his forum was rather... crap, to say the least.

PM advertising isn't as rampant as it used to be a few years ago. I think nowadays most people know its not "socially acceptable" to PM advertise.

If it's a genre that interests me I'll have a look. If not I delete it.
