When joining a forum do you look for professionalism? Do look for maturity in the staff members?

To me professionalism and maturity is necessary in order for me to join or post around. If the staff can't take it the forum seriously why should I?

I've recently been added to a group on Skype from staff on a forum and though it's a Skype chat I still feel like it's a group for the forum staff they should be somewhat mature especially when they talk about the forum and the members. It was a huge turn off when they started acting immature and bashing members on their forum or talking about really immature topics. Since the Skype conversation I don't go on that forum anymore and if the staff members create their own forum I don't even bother joining their community.

Do you find maturity and professionalism important on a forum?

Maturity, yes.

Define professionalism. You mean those admins act like uptight condescending jerks? I'll pass on them. :P

Professionalism where they don't get power hungry, or they don't become very immature or have favorites who can't do anything wrong or break the rules.

If a forum is to be successful yes the people running it need to set and hold the standards to which they want the rest of the members to adhere to.

This. I think it's important that an administrator realizes that forums aren't 'serious business' and nobody should be able to act like 'the boss'. Forums are completely expendable.

Yes. I was a member at another forum which was run by someone who didn't care about the issues there. Had to leave since the owner seemed to not have had forum experience as staff.

Indeed. An admin can do their "job" just as effectively using common sense and compassion.

i guess it depends on what type of forum it is...

forums can be "adult like" and others can be more fun and for children...

there's also forums that are very strict and others that have barely any rules, if not any rules at all and the forum can be successful, fun and enjoyable...

it also depends on the person that's looking for a forum, and who that person is and what-not...

some people look for fun forums that are laid-back and other people would rather be on a forum that's strict with 50 billion rules...
