Is public education to soft on children today?

Do you think they are scared to flunk our kids? Children never learn the lessons that failure brings?

I don't think it's the fault of the schools, but rather the fault of the bullshit pc brigade who have brought about the situation in the first place.

It's only natural for a child to try and stretch the boundaries and to try and do what they want, especially when they know that nothing much can be done when they break the rules.

Its funny that kids have actually work at being flunked out of school. They give them so many chances that its hard to fail. I think a little bit of tough love would be more helpful and beneficial in preparing a child for the real world than holding their hand through life/school.

I agree with this and luckily it was that way in my school and most schools in my country (I think).

I totally agree with Nebulous, it's pathetically easy to graduate high school, and they give you so many chances... Our school system has started focusing solely on the laziest students, and pay little or no attention to the people actually willing to work hard, its messed up.

I personally feel they aren't harsh enough, and as a result, key life lessons are skipped. With more and more parents working nowadays, children are losing key life lessons
