It is important to punish parents for the misdeed of their kids?

Why or why not?

Yes and no. Parents are responsible for their kids, but some kids need help, therapy. Those kids have their own issues and the parents may not be to blame

Especially with most school shootings, it's not the parents' fault. Some kids go out and buy guns under the table, don't tell their parents what they're going to do (because they know it's wrong and that their parents would stop them), and then proceed to shoot up a school. What does everyone do after the kid either commits murder suicide or get's arrested? The parents get sued and brought up on charges.

Holding parents responsible for the crimes of their children is just shifting the blame, which does not address the problem. This only makes it much easier for children to misbehave as they know that their parents will take the blame and not themselves.
