I keep seeing all these sloppily made forums with the default skin and hardly any posts being advertised lately. Why don't people spend time setting up their forums, perhaps getting a couple people to help create topics/posts to generate some sort of atmosphere BEFORE releasing it to the public?

True. That is a issue I've noticed on a lot of today's forums. Most forums, with a few exceptions, serve the purpose of the admin/owner having the title to just be the owner of the site. They could care less about the site, just being able to say you have your own forum intrigues some peps creating forums. A lot of the youth dominate those boards too.

It's easier? I prefer setting up a forum. I don't see why people need to rush their opening. If I make a board, I want it to be established first and I'd probably start advertising it after that. That'd probably give it a better chance of lasting.

When I made my most successful forum, It was in beta for two full weeks before I released it to public. I had me, and three other staff members already on the site. It was around 700 posts before open. Gave users an idea of the content wanted, the tone of the site, and also gave time for us and our new members to easily figure out what is acceptable, and what is not.

i suppose some people just are too lazy.

when i converted my kchat to zetaboards i immedietly put on an alternate skin, even though i have not fixed it up yet.

I keep saying this on forum promotion, it's rather annoying because these forums don't do anything. They are up for a month max, and then they are gone.

They just want to be an administrator of a big forum. They don't realize how much work it is.

How did the board work out (as far as statistics)? Or, how is it working out?

Exactly. You can't expect a forum to do well if you rush it together. The community won't have much content and it'll just die quickly.

It's defunct now. It had around 40 registrations a day, and around 400 posts/day. It was a movie site, and many of the registrations were because I wanted users to sign up to view all content. Gave me a better idea of the amount of viewers to the site. The only thing I struggled with were converting new members to posters.
