17 to get into an R rated movie is silly. I can drive a car to the movies, but I can't get into the movie. Letting a 16 year old drive to the movies is much more dangerous than letting him/her actually go inside and watch the movie. Just yesterday we had to have my friend's mom buy a ticket just so we could get in. It's ridiculous. I saw the Hangover Part II yesterday, and some parents brought even younger kids to see the movie! Yet at 16 I can not go by myself without mommy?

Then, I know some of you are like, well, just sneak in to the movie. I thought about that, just buying a ticket to go see kung fu panda and then just go watch the Hangover Part II, but then I felt bad because I don't want to take money away from the production staff who actually make the movie.

What are your thoughts on the age limit? Also, do you feel buying a ticket to another movie just to sneak into a rated R movie is right?

In addition, if you have a solution, please explain below.

It's somewhat less ridiculous here because you don't get to drive till 18

And in the US you can't drink until you're 21, but if the President declares a state of emergency and re-instates the draft you can be inducted into the army, sent to a war zone, and honored with an heroic death for your country at 18.

But you can be prosecuted as an adult for some felonies in some jurisdictions at 14.

But you can vote at 18!

But you can't rent a car in some places until you're 24.

And then depending on the state, you can be married at 16, or 20, or 19, or whatever if you are a girl, but for a boy the age is 18, or 15, or....

It comes down to, an age had to be assigned for insert life event of your choice here... and that was what 'governing board or authority of said event came up with.

Is it fair? No.

It's just the way it is.

I can't imagine you have to be 17 to watch the Hangover 2 where you live though.

Here everyone can go see that movie. Not rly sure why they make that movie 17+. It's quite innocent...

Just buy a ticket for a different movie & go see hangover instead

That's what I did when I was a kid.

It's rated 15 here. Gotta love how different countries find some things more adult than what other countries do

Don't you have to show your ticket before entering the room?

They don't here. Just to get in the theatre (you buy your ticket outside)
