I have a question.... but let me set it up first.
Over the weekend I sat through about ten minutes of a movie that won 9 Oscars.
It starred several big named actors, was made by a Hollywood legend, and had a musical score with a couple of songs that have become iconic on their own.
My question is, has ANYBODY watched this thing from end to end in the last ten years?
The society it depicts is agonizing, all pretext and show and so totally shallow I was begging for an invasion of aliens or zombies or something to either come get me or the people on the screen to put an end to the misery.
Oh... you're asking what movie it was?
OK. Gigi, directed by Vincente Minnelli. Starring: Leslie Caron, Maurice Chevalier, and Louis Jourdan. (and yes, all four names are legendary if you go look them up)
It won every award worth winning in the 1959-60 award cycle. Including the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture, and as mentioned, Nine Academy Awards, Best- picture, music, art, director Etc.
But... My God. To watch it now? it was painful.
