I've recently run across a site where PM's were shared, but I wanted to expand the discussion to include any sort of restricted access content.



Do you believe that sharing this kind of content with people who would not otherwise have access to it based on the merits of their account or other restriction is ethical practice?
 
That should be defined in the site rules, and unless the original poster gives specific permission for the 'private' or 'special' message to be reposted, be considered a violation of those rules and result in them being sentenced to listen to the Barney song for an entire weekend.

No. I don't believe it is. Unless the person whose post/PM is being shared doesn't object, of course.
