Reducing Troops In Afghanistan

dont fool yourself............outside of the big cities the taliban are in charge!

afghanistan has a very long history of being 'invaded' and sucessfully resisting.......neither the british or the soviets managed it in the last few centuries...others treid in the past too

should never gone to the shithole in the first place.....................we have more important things to worry about rather than this money pit.............personally i say out now and leave them to it

Ah, so this is what they'll be saving money on.

Who's covering the bets that the Taliban will be back in charge of the country inside of a year from our pullout?
Me.

How much do you want to bet? Any specific date?

Fortunately most people except his hardcore supporters who have an Obama Adoration party once a month see this as the cheap election year political stunt it is.

I just hope my Step Son doesn't end up back over there during the draw down when it will be more dangerous than it has been for our people.

This isn't an election year :/

You sure about that?

Texas Rep. Ron Paul has won the rights for the premier lot at the Ames Republican Presidential Straw Poll, set for August 13.

The Texas Republican and current Republican presidential candidate purchased the key spot with a $31,000 payment, outbidding rivals.

President Barack Obama comes to New York City Thursday evening to do some fundraising. In addition to appearing at an LBGT gala hosted by actor Neil Patrick Harris, the president will stop by the Broadway Theater at 1681 Broadway at 53rd St. and speak after a full performance of Sister Act, according to an Obama campaign official. Proceeds from the show will go towards the president's 2012 campaign.

If it isn't, it's sure starting to feel like it.

Yes, it's all sunshine and lollipops in Afghanistan these days.

Wonderful job Mr. Obama and friends, time to go home now.

KABUL — Several attackers stormed the Intercontinental Hotel in the Afghan capital, Kabul, Tuesday night, and witnesses said shooting and a loud explosion were heard as Afghan security forces rushed to the scene.

Afghan security forces were still struggling to bring the situation under control, and the number of casualties was not immediately clear. But a Western security official said that early reports indicated that there were as many as six attackers — armed and believed to be wearing suicide vests — and that 10 people had been killed in the attack.

Of course this isn't from those haters at Fox either. We all know about them. Don't we.

This is an odd statement. I understand you are attempting sarcasm, which was successful (albeit not amusing) but who exactly was suggesting that Afghanistan was in a state of sunshine and lollipops? I thought it was widespread knowledge that Afghanistan is one of the most ****ed up countries in the world right now.

Probably Obama, more or less. He did say they were leaving and letting the Afghani people take care of themselves after training them. Thereby insinuating that they can take care of things themselves...

Well if we have 100,000 troops in there and things like the Doc posted still happen, what are we accomplishing?

Not much on the whole... probably something for some people though.

Disastrous results like these are as good a reason as any to get outta there...

If we pull out, we're essentially welcoming the Talib and Al Qaida back in.

The Afghanis are obviously incapable of running the country.

In fact, there is no country as we understand the concept.

In most of the -stans the central government is more an idea than a reality, out in the countryside various tribal leaders, strongmen, war lords, thugs, and others run their local areas. Some acknowledge the national government, some don't.

And they seem to like it that way. At least they have for the last couple of thousand years.

The Soviets couldn't change it in their handful of them, Saddam basically gave up on Kurdistan and left them alone once he got tired of killing them, and so on.

I read the other day that the U.S. spends 20$ billion a year on air conditioning in Iraq and Afghanistan.
