Hey Everyone

Renting or buying a house?

What do you prefer

I would prefer buying a house but the market is so tough

Although I don't have money yet I hope to get a house one day in the future

As my mum says renting is dead money your paying someone else's mortgage and you never know when or how long you will be there as you have no control

So what do you prefer Renting or owning your own house?

There's pros and cons to both.. with rent, at least any building work or issues with white goods are generally on the onus of the landlord to get sorted.

I've been renting for 18 months, but I'm currently moving in with my partner who owns her property.

Renting for me. As a renter, I'm are not responsible for many of the costly expenses associated with home ownership. Therefore, in my case, it is actually smarter for me to rent than buy.

Since I grew up in the country on acreage, renting never appealed to me although I had done it a few times. The last time was because we couldn’t get a mortgage due to not having credit. We had a nice chunk for a down payment but because we didn’t have credit, we couldn’t ‘prove’ we could afford it. Irony huh! Right now we own our own home outright. However, buying your own home does have its drawbacks. I can understand why some people prefer to rent especially if you are single & don’t know where you want to live exactly, or don’t want to worry about “house” things such as plumbing, furnace, not to mention yardwork & upkeep. It’s definitely a personal choice.

If you could afford a house, where would you like to live?
I would like to live near my family so the east side of my town would be great ?

I wouldn't want to move out of the city I live in (Christchurch, New Zealand) because I can't drive and I have disability so need to be near family for support and help at times

Looks like a very pretty place to live with lots to do and see there. Do you get a lot of tourist coming there?

At some point when we are retired, I imagine we would rent however, have multiple paid off property as our source of passive income to cover rent, etc. I would like to live in a nice apartment with lovely amenities.

If I have a huge amount of money, I prefer to buy the house. For now, I am working for it to achieve this personal goal.

Buying a house no matter the cost is it for me. This is your life long property and you are owning it

Its not easy to buy but its best to arrange money and buy as you can save your rent if you have your own house.

Even I haven't stayed in any rented place and I guess I was blessed about it because I see those on rent need to change their house every few years
