How good are you at doing plumbing repairs at your home?

I don't have the strength required to do what needs to be done, nor the proper tools for some things. I've really given it a good try, but ultimately I end up calling the plumber and paying a fortune. We have a faucet in one of the bathrooms that developed a slow drip and I know the cartridge needs to be replace, but I think I'll just have someone replace the entire faucet. It's the original for our 23 year old home, so it's time.

Really bad. I never learned how. There's this guy that my family hires. He can do almost anything. I've had to have him come over and replace or fix my water heaters when they go bad.

i'm too old to do that kind of stuff anymore. but did replace sinks/faucets in 2 bathrooms several years back. the sinks and fixtures were OLD... original to house built in mid-70s. countertops were brown woodgrain Formica. I decided I was gonna redo them in a faux leather painting technique... couldn't afford new counter tops.

I went to HD and asked the guy in plumbing if the job was as easy as shows like "this old house" made them look and he said yes. no need to be under the sink for more than disconnecting the water lines... after making sure the water was REALLY off.

plain white replacement sinks and average faucets... less than $100 per bathroom and no "labor" charges.

In 2 weeks a plumber will come out to replace our kitchen faucet and 2 of the other bathroom faucets. The two faucets in the master bathroom were replaced 3 years ago by this plumber, and he did a good job. It's so expensive but needs to get done and I can't do it.

One thing I learned is that when I researching the faucets I wanted to buy from Ace hardware (it's the closest place and they have a plumbing service), I noticed that when I logged in online, the price was higher. When I did a google search, the price was lower. At the store, the price was high...so I had to drive home and order without logging in first to get the kitchen faucet $30 cheaper. Crazy.
