(The Guardian) Modern slavery report reveals 27.6 million people in forced labour
There is a new report out on modern slavery and it paints a very damning and upsetting picture, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.

As the anti-slavery organisation International Justice Mission Australia says: The International Labour Organization (ILO), Walk Free and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) data paints a concerning picture regarding the scourge of modern slavery, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.

The report revealed that there are 27.6 million people in forced labour, and Asia and the Pacific hosts more than half of the global total (15.1 million) of people in forced labour.

Further, it revealed that 86 per cent of forced labour cases occur in the private economy, and State-imposed forced labour accounts for the remaining 14 per cent.

The report also stated that the number of people living in forced marriages has risen globally by 6.6 million to a total of 22 million people between 2016 and 2021. An estimated 14.2 million people in Asia and the Pacific are in forced marriages.

IJM Australia CEO, Steve Baird said the new data highlights the need for more to be done tackling modern slavery in the region.

Disgusting the forced labour and forced marriages still exist. I understand the cultural aspect of it in some places, but wrong is wrong...

I would say that going by their definition they are giving extremely conservative figures too. As I would include things such as sweatshop workers in any category of modern slavery due to the conditions and nature of the work. It is absolutely stretching the definition of the term voluntary to imply that this is an employment situation that they have pursued after weighing up their options. If not for the world system and the politico economic environment, they would not be forced into accepting such degrading work conditions. It is incredibly disgusting though that people with power so often use this power imbalance to exploit the vulnerable and marginalized around the world.

Please! almost the entire Middle East supports slavery. We’re talking half a billion women under slavery at a minimum. But they are to scared to mention it.

Europe and Americas open borders thrives on human trafficking because the left don’t care one bit about the people being affected but the power it get them by allowing it.

Quoting from the OP....
...particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.

I believe they said that above, Serafin.

They can only go by what they see there, Serafin...

The only country in the Middle East that gives women rights is Israel, they aren’t looking they are ignoring for political reasons

I don't think they mentioned them specifically.....

Of course not saying half billion woman under slavery would offend the worlds most dangerous religion.
Say it anyway; given the post-Sept. 11th world we live in, I doubt most people would care.

Well we know for sure the ones screaming equal rights and demanding to hurt children the loudest don’t care.
