Have you ever had a reptile for a pet?

What did you have?

Do you like reptiles?

We had a garter snake for a very tiny bit. We got rid of it after it tried going after my mom's finger.

Never again after that!

Yeah I had a snake before (corn snake) and a couple lizards (leopard tail geckos)

Never had one especially snakes. I'm not comfortable around them. I may keep a lizard or chameleon.

I'm real real glad my girlfriend got rid of her monitor lizard. That thing was f***ing mean as hell.
Without going back through 'history books', (for me)...aren't those things really toxic? I mean, I think I recall reading that they carry such a vile assortment of bacteria in their mouth that if they bite you it's very hazardous to your health. ??

Yes. Another reason why I wanted to get rid of it. It had a very disturbing hiss when you'd go up to the terrarium and it would bite at the glass.

Lived with someone who had a snake as a pet. I didn’t know they were so dirty!
Oops! Or maybe you were talking about Wessel's monitor lizard 'thing' :p ?
Totally different, not a snake. :)

I do think snakes really are a very clean animal; on kind of a gross note: I don't know why snakes are not a normal part of our 'food chain'. They're waaaaaaaaaaaaay cleaner than chickens.

That snake enclosure smelled like a horse barn 🤢

The bigger ones like the boa constrictors are. Their turds are huge. The smaller snakes not so much.
Well, duh, everything's turds are nasty!:p

As I (quite vaguely) recall: the monitor lizard consumes mainly carrion which they chew, and the raw, decaying meat stays in their teeth and mouth & the bacterial growth rapidly becomes poisonous or toxic. Snakes, on the other hand consume their food live and swallow it whole; therefore much cleaner.
And, on the OTHER hand , chickens will eat ANY sort of nasty thing they can find. Like scratching around through cow patties & horse plops; and even pecking at sores on each other.
