What's something you hate seeing people do in a restaurant?

:nono:

- That one table that is making most of the noise, if it's a larger group of people then it's more understandable and excusable.

- People that are constantly on their phone at the table.

- People that use the wrong cutlery for the wrong dish, this annoys me to no end!!!!!! Almost always work your way inwards.

- People that bring young children to a posh/quiet/adult restaurant, if they're old enough to be in their own chair and not a highchair, they're old enough to be taught how to be well behaved in a public place like that. I'm not saying young children shouldn't be allowed in, it's just those that are should be well behaved. I know this won't be a popular opinion though.

- People that spend ages paying, they'll spend ages staring at the bill working out how much they have to pay. It doesn't take much to remember roughly how much each dish you've ordered costs, just round up. This 'rounding up' is another big thing, don't act cheap and stingy, just throw a note into the pile or something if it's only 2-3 pound/dollars you're owed change, don't ask for it.

Laughing too loudly.

Getting way too drunk.

People not trying to keep a lid on their children and instead letting them scream their heads off, and/or run around like a wild animal.

Being really rude and impatient with the staff if they're not deserving of it. Regardless, you shouldn't treat staff members meanly, especially ones handling your food.

Stealing.

On their phone when they really should be thinking about what they want to order to streamline the process. There was an experiment done on this at a successful restaurant that saw much slower turn around times. They set up cameras and found out that it was customers on their cell phones making the process much slower, but the reason they had so many people on their phones was because the place had installed WiFi. xD

Like how? A salad fork used with steak?

Yes, or the wrong spoon with a soup.

Also, those that lift the soup bowl or tilt it when eating soup is a no-no too, it should stay flat.

People who carry on conversations at the table while the waiter is waiting to take their order.

People who chew like an old cow with their mouth open.

People not supervising their children. Kids running around the restaurant drives me crazy. If you can't keep your kid at the table, stay at home.

gets my vote

Yes. Out of control young children, or not-so-young children, has to be one of the top three.

As for "using the wrong fork".... ... I can't tell you the last time I was at a restaurant that gave you more than one.

I haven't been to a White Table Cloth place in ages.

And I'm surprisingly OK with that.

Some of the best meals I've ever had were in places that had bottles of ketchup on the table.

You've got my vote as well. It's not so much that I hate kids. They can be annoying and irritating, but you can't blame them considering they're kids. It's the parents I can't stand when they don't do anything about disciplining their child. Or rather, not teaching them how to eat out in public properly.

Excellent point there. I might end up not planning on having kids by keeping this in mind. But I WILL teach my future child the right way, based on my experiences.
