Have you ever returned a gift to the store it came from or gave your gift to another person?

If someone did that with a gift you bought, would you be offended?

Yes frequently.

Every Christmas my mother would ask what I wanted as a gift. I ALWAYS replied 'Book tokens' as I LOVE to read. My mother thinks reading is a dreadful habit and would buy me clothes instead. First there was the year she bought me a foul purple skirt and a green and purple striped jumper. I've got nothing against purple - I love the colour - it was the outfit - it was hideous!

Then there was the time she sent me a vivid turquoise nightshirt in some nasty clingy static material that made me sweat all night. That has to be one of the worst nights sleep I have ever had!

Then there was the year she gave me nothing because she 'didn't know' what to get me.

Actually, I don't regift her stuff. I give it to the charity shop because no one else would want it.

But I have regifted big boxes of make-up I have been given as I don't use make-up. I regifted a bottle of perfume to my niece. It was Britney Spears perfume. Why would anyone think I would want Britney Spears perfume? Seriously? (If anyone wishes to buy me perfume I love Jean Paul Gaultier's 'Classique'. Thankyou very much.

I have regifted candles and jewellery and wine glasses and all sorts of stuff.

I have never yet regifted a person with the gift they gave me.....but it's been a close run thing a couple of times!

I used to keep all the gifts I was given, but it got to the stage where I had drawerfuls of rubbish that I didn't want and would never use. I thought people would be offended if I got rid of their stuff. However, then I moved house and ended up packing all this total crap into boxes and realised how ridiculous it was keeping junk just because I didn't want to offend people. So I sent loads of stuff to the charity shop. The kids school were always asking for bits for their stalls at the summer fayre, so they could raise money for the school, so they got lots of stuff too.

I recently moved house again and brought a lorry-load of books with me. I realised I'm never going to read a lot of these books again, so they'll be the next thing for the charity shop.

I have regifted some nice jewellery, although when I was regifting I wasn't working because my children were babies and money was very tight. I have sold some brand that I didn't want on Ebay.

No, I wouldn't be offended if someone regifted a present I had bought for them. Having said that, I put a lot of thought into buying gifts for people. I notice what sort of things they like and spend a lot of time looking for the perfect gift for them. So most of the time they love their gifts. My brother is the same, a thoughtful gift giver. However, my mother and sister are rubbish at gift-buying!

They just grab anything and think 'that will do'. They grab last minute stuff. I start christmas present buying in June so that I can buy things I think people will love and pack them away until Christmas. It also means you can spread the cost of your Christmas shopping so you don't run up your credit cards by hundreds of pounds in December. You don't notice it so much if you spend ten or twenty pounds on bits and pieces during the year.

I also like to buy several smaller gifts rather than one big gift. So if I bought you a mug, for instance, I would also buy you some different teas/coffees/ hot chocolates to go in it. I'd buy you some fancy christmas biscuits and some marshmallows for the top. Maybe a christmas spoon and some christmassy chocolates. I like to have lots of little things that make one beautiful and thoughtful gift. Then I like to wrap it in pretty paper with pretty ribbons and a card. I think unwrapping a beautiful gift is half the pleasure of it. I know I enjoy unwrapping beautifully wrapped presents.

So, no, I wouldn't mind if people regifted my gifts. Sometimes people will just not like what you give them. Usually though people say they love my gifts. Sometimes I make up funny poems for them or write them a song and tell them which well-known tune to sing it to. One lady I used to work with was in floods because she loved my gift and the song I wrote for her, so much. I even wrapped it up in rudolph wrapping paper, tied it up with red ribbons and then tied a huge rudolph the red-nosed reindeer balloon to the outside. She just seemed the sort of person who would love balloons!

She burst into tears and said it was the best present she'd ever had! She was in her 60s and no one had ever bought her a balloon as a present before. She said the balloon alone was her most favourite present ever. And that was before she even opened her present. She worked with special needs children and I wrote her a poem about them, mentioning each by name. She told me later that she had loved it so much she had framed it and hung it in her kitchen so that she could see it every day!

I was originally just going to answer 'yes' and 'no' but that seemed a bit mean.

So now I've gone to the other extreme instead.

Oh well.

Ive returned gifts before. I can never be to sure what store the gift was from, so I just check to see what stores carry the item, then find out who sells it for the most money, then return the item claiming that Ive lost my receipt. Usually I'll get a store credit and then I can go buy what I want.

If I cant return it, then I'll just keep it or donate it to a thrift store.

The only thing I reuse is gift bags. Ive actually given a gift to someone and placed it in the same exact bag they gave me once before. It was pretty funny.

Oh yes.

A lot of times my family members (who live in a different state) insist on giving me gift cards for stores we don't have in our town or for stores I don't like. Sometimes, I'm lucky and it's for a store that I don't like that's in another town!

When that happens either my parents buy the card from me (lol), or I get one of my friends to. But I hate gift cards, I'd rather have money c:

I've re-gifted stuff.. and received re-gifted items, as well. Like a ten year old bonsai tree with a note to my Grandma dated ten years back saying merry Christmas. lol
