Samhain is known by most folks as Halloween, but for Wiccans and Pagans it's considered a Sabbat to honor the ancestors who came before us. It's a good time to contact the spirit world, because it's the time when the veil between this world and the next is at its thinnest.

I think I am the only one here who does celebrate Samhain, so blessed Samhain blessings to myself!

This is very interesting. How do you celebrate? Is there a ritual or something like that?

I'm not a Wiccan or Pagan but I hope it's okay for me to say Samhain blessings to you!

Of course Jazzy.

We didn't do anything but raise a glass in the end. I will plan a small ritual for Saturday tonight when I finish work.

Mine just involves lighting a candle, saying a prayer or poem, wishing my loved ones well in the next life, giving an offering of food and mead (can't drink any though as I'll be driving, maybe a sip!)

I have done bigger rituals in the past where we involes the guardians and cast circles but I prefer smaller solitary work.

So.. Samhain/All Hallows is almost upon us again.

Anyone have any plans to actually honour your ancestors, not the silly halloween bashes.

I hope its a nice night so I can get in my tipi and do a ritual. I've bought Mugwort and Frankincense to burn, Just need to get a little ritual and poem together. Write the names of my loved ones down, speak to them and then burn the paper.

I hope to do the ritual Friday night, but if not then Saturday night. If I do it Saturday, I can celebrate with mead, not just offer it! :D

I hope you have a wonderful ritual.

I too cannot stand the "celebration" of death and evil forced upon us by the festering open sewer of mass media, and the idiots who stand in line all wide eyed and drooling to buy plastic pumpkins and an endless supply of sugar and chemicals.

there's this realm, the second realm and the third realm, so to speak...

the third realm is good, where god and the angels mingle...

the second realm is evil, where the devil and demons mingle...

evil is constantly trying (and succeeding) to get into the 1st realm...

those who practice such things as to try to get in touch with the dead or family from the "other side" is playing with fire as the third realm don't do such things like you may think... demons from the second realm will always try to trick and manipulate humans in the first realm to cause trouble and havoc... the ones that go against god, will have their soul and frequencies left wide open for the demons to attack...

Good job I don't believe in devils and demons then.

I believe in salamanders (which aren't good to deal with anyway unless you know what your doing) and negative spirits which can come into our world if INVOKED but I'm not invoking.

Only time I've ever EVOKED spirits is to guard the circle, and then at the end you thank them.

I never invoke something.

Samhain is when the veil between our world and the spirit world is thin so you can contact your ancestors, It's not about bring them or anything else into our world.

(for the record, a "salamander" spirit is an Elemental / natural (Earth) spirit, and can be somewhat unpleasant when encountered)

If you would, explain how you see a "negative spirit" as different from a standard issue "demon".

Yea, Sorry folks I should have explained what they are.

To me they are not demons, they are like negative energies or ghosts. I don't know for me a demon would be like the devil which I don't believe in.
I do believe there are spirits which cause complete chaos, but thankfully I've never encountered anything like that.
