School Lunches

We never had food at school. I'm not entirely sure about the current situation, but I imagine it's quite similar.

Usually, most schools would have something like a kiosk. It wasn't officially affiliated with the school and mostly sold popular snacks like chocolates, chips, and drinks. Most students would have lunch at home. That seemed to be the norm in most places that I'm familiar with.

Okay, this answer was about where I was born and grew up

Now where i live
kids typically bring food from home or purchase it from an on-site canteen or an external food provider.

Every morning, I used to prepare a lunchbox for my son before he headed off to school.
It usually included a sandwich, some fruit, a small snack sometimes, and a juice.

As he got older, he'd often opt to buy a small snack from the canteen instead or nothing.

I imagine the routine is likely to be similar now, although that was many years ago

It varied from school to school, but I'd say most of the school lunch programs weren't too bad in my opinion. My favorite thing to get during middle school was strawberry milk. xD

That was nice of you to make him lunches every day. My mother never did that for me.

Strawberry milk??!?!?!? We never had that.

At my first middle school we had strawberry milk as an option. I went to a lot of different schools over my life, so school lunches varied a lot generally speaking. xD

Sounds like your schools have more freedoms over there. Here in California its the same crap at every school / standardized.

When I was in school 99% of it was New Jersey. But I did spend like 6-7 months in California as a teenager (well, end of middle school teenager).
My main memory of lunches there was my aunt getting mad when I'd buy a cookie.

Why did she get mad?
