School Lunches

Do you think they should get rid of school lunches and make kids bring their own lunch from home? Why or why not?

Well... we don't have them... but I think it'd be a good way to save money as a school.

i disagree...........for some kids from deprived/poor families its a good way of ensuring they get one decent meal aday........what needs to be done is ensure that the meals are nourishing and wholesome and healthy.....jamie oliver has the right idea i think

I'm actually a pretty picky eater, even as an adult! So there were days when I was in school where I didn't mind bringing a sack lunch, as by bringing my own lunch I knew I would be having stuff that I would actually eat the whole thing of. In fact I think most of my senior year of high school I started bringing sack lunches, because I only liked so many of the things they were serving in the cafeteria, so I felt good about bringing stuff I knew I would eat. So I think a sack lunch would probably bbe good for those who are really picky eaters or those who will only eat certain things in a certain way.

And in some districts, the director of the nutrition program is getting paid in excess of 100G a year to oversee garbage on a plate?



Meanwhile somebody is getting kickbacks and favors from the suppliers and wholesalers to push damned near inedible food onto the kids.



And We The Taxpayers are footing the bill for this crap?



No. If it is going to be run that way, there's got to be a better way.

A Jacksonville school cafeteria manager was arrested on a grand theft charge after about $8,000 was reported stolen from the Sabal Palm Elementary cafeteria.

No. If it is going to be run that way, there's got to be a better way.

I looked up the pay scale for our local Director of Food services. The job starts at $23 an hour and maxes out at $34.



Anyway the food they serve in the school cafeteria's here in California is not that bad and the child must take an entree, fruit or veggie and a milk or juice.



Almost all the kids (around here) are on free or reduced price lunches. I cant imagine how much money is being forked out on food a year. I imagine the state would save a lot of money and save a bunch of teacher's / other employee's jobs if they stopped providing lunches. A schools primary duty is to educate the children. The parents should pack a lunch for their kid. If a kid is not being fed properly then Child Protective Services should be notified.



Of course I am a hypocrite because my daughter eats school lunch everyday.

I think that they should not get rid of school lunches not every kid has the time too go and make their own lunch. I think they should lower the prices for school lunches though last i remember is they were really expensive
