What are some ideas and some answers for us to put a stop to issues like school shootings?

What do you think the US government could be doing better about it?

That's the big question in America, how to effectively curtail school shootings. The obvious answer is gun control, but you bring up those two words and the conspiracies start flying. They're coming to take my guns away!! They want us unable to defend ourselves! So you have to balance common sense gun laws with paranoia and...etc. It's a tough, tough thing to get done, and sadly the longer it takes, the more school shootings occur, and the circle of "this is a tragedy, we need to fix this! No, now isn't the time to talk about this! Our thoughts are with the town of [town] at this horrible hour" continues with not a single thing being done to change it.

The obvious answer is mental health awareness and to report signs of problems before people go off the edge. One of the very worst first school shootings was in a neighborhood north of Chicago by a lady who went bizerk. No one in that day and age could ever fathom that someone would want to enter a school and kill little children. Since then we have the copycats.

When I was a sub, we worried about all weapons being in the school, because in an enclosed space like an assembly, someone could have a knife and do a lot of damage.

The cause of murder is the person behind the act.

Part of the reason why nothing changes, is that politicians and the public get worked up for like a week or so after the shooting (I’m being hyperbolic with the time). Then they basically forget about it, and restart the cycle when the next one happens.

There's a number of things that can be done, and some of these things have been done in my area.
  • Metal detectors being installed in schools.
  • School Resource Officers being placed in schools.
  • More mental health awareness. More resources to those who are clearly suffering from mental illness.
  • More gun control, but that's certainly a complex subject.

Sadly, society does this with a lot of things.

It is better to stop selling guns or even using them by policemen. In order to prevent this, they should ban the use of guns.

There should be scanners in school to detect dangerous weapons. The
School Officers should be vigilant to know kids with guns before hands

There cannoit be a better way than what is outlined by you The issue is why is the government not aware of it and doe something to arrest what is going on in schools?

Some other things that aren’t helping are that anti-gun people don’t know the process behind buying a gun, assault weapon is a loaded term, or anything about AR-15’s outside it looking like a M4.

I remember the gun show loophole ended up being a crock of shit several years back.
