Second storm to hit UK on Monday

High winds and stormy weather are expected to hit Britain again on Monday days after hurricane-force gusts of 165mph caused chaos in Scotland and northern England.

Forecasters issued an alert for Monday night with strong winds due to affect the north-west, West Midlands, south-west, London, the south-east, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The warning from the Met Office came after extreme weather caused by a low pressure Atlantic storm brought many parts of Scotland to a standstill.

Planes were grounded, schools were closed and hundreds of homes were left without power. The top wind speed of 165mph was recorded in the Cairngorms. The top wind speed on record is 173mph.

Tim Ballisty, a meteorologist at weather.com, said: “What is interesting about this next storm is that the huge weather system that slammed into Scotland on Thursday was very constrained, its damage was limited to Scotland.

“However, next week's storm looks likely to cover the whole of the UK, it is tremendously wide and has a much broader scope to it.

I'm in the East. Had some high winds but nothing major. I know Scotland has had it pretty bad so far.

Forecasters have been wrong in the past and I hope they're wrong now too. If not, I hope all our members in these areas remain safe!

Good thing Scotland won't get hit by this next storm... and I hope the storm after it won't hit the whole of the UK.

So i have two areas to worry about.

And yet, people will try to outsmart mother nature. Stay home if you don't have to go out!
